The town of Southborough is located 25 miles West of Boston and 15 Miles east of Worcester County. The town has retained a peaceful low density and rural character. Located in the heart of New England and crossed by Rt. 9, the Mass turnpike and interstate 495, Southborough is a convenient location for residence and business.

Southborough, or "Stoneybrook" as it was originally named, was established in 1727. It was primarily a farming community until the first post World War II housing boom and the development of the "high tech" industry that sprang up around Route 495.

It was, however, the first settlers and the original town "fathers and mothers" who created the town that exists today. The town meetings were the focal point in which the desire for superior schools was created and implemented. Town meeting members created a caring government and a town in which the public interests were the most important considerations. Dozens of names can be found in the annals of the past, yet one family created the town center that is known today. It was members of the Burnett family who founded St. Mark's Church, St. Mark's School and the Fay School as well as Deerfoot Farm, the premier establishment of the town from the mid 1800's until well into the 1900's.

Add the Choate family who donated the Community House to the Village Society, Francis Fay's donation of the first $500 for a town library, and you see that much of the center of town, with the lawns and characteristic buildings, to the schools and English-style stone church, is because of families prominent two centuries ago.
